THE SIMPLE FACTSTM...Seroquel® (Quetiapine fumarate) - manfactured by AstraZeneca - is an atypical antipsychotic drug. Antipsychotic drugs and medicines/medication (e.g., Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal) are used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia.
Unfortunately, there have been reports that patients taking the drug Seroquel may be at increased risk side effects including hyperglycemia, diabetes and other health concerns.
U.S. FDA Action
In January 2004, the FDA asked all manufacturers of atypical antipsychotic medications to add a boxed warning statement describing the increased risk of side effects hyperglycemia and diabetes in patients taking these medications, including Seroquel.
Seroquel's Possible Health Concerns
According to many reports, Seroquel users may experience one of the following side effects or health issues:
- Diabetes
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas)
- Ketoacidosis
- Hyperglycemia
- Seizures
- Diabetic Coma
- Stroke
- Heart Attack
- Amputation of Limb (due to diabetes)
- Severe Weight Gain
If you were taking Seroquel on or before January 2004, and have developed one or more of the above referenced side effects and/or health problems, you may have a case and be entitled to compensation.
Quite frankly, the simple factsTM about the AstraZeneca drug Seroquel and the possible side effects/injuries - diabetes, pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas), ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia, seizures, diabetic coma, stroke, heart attack, amputation of a limb (due to diabetes), severe weight gain or other medical conditions - that may be caused by taking Seroquel are unacceptable.
