Seroquel®
Seroquel® (Quetiapine fumarate) - manfactured by AstraZeneca - is an atypical antipsychotic drug. Antipsychotic drugs and medicines/medication (e.g., Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal) are used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia.
Unfortunately, there have been reports that patients taking the drug Seroquel may be at increased risk side effects including hyperglycemia, diabetes and other health concerns.
U.S. FDA Action
In January 2004, the FDA asked all manufacturers of atypical antipsychotic medications to add a boxed warning statement describing the increased risk of side effects hyperglycemia and diabetes in patients taking these medications, including Seroquel.
Seroquel's Possible Health Concerns
According to many reports, Seroquel users may experience one of the following side effects or health issues:
- Diabetes
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas)
- Ketoacidosis
- Hyperglycemia
- Seizures
- Diabetic Coma
- Stroke
- Heart Attack
- Amputation of Limb (due to diabetes)
- Severe Weight Gain
