THE SIMPLE FACTSTM...Risperdal® (Risperidone) - manfactured by Janssen Pharmaceutica, Inc. - is an atypical antipsychotic. Antipsychotic medicines/medication (e.g., Zyprexa and Seroquel) are used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia. Unfortunately, there have been reports that patients taking the drug Risperdal may be at increased risk of symptoms and side effects including hyperglycemia, ketoacidosis, diabetes, pancreatitis, stroke, death, withdrawal and other health concerns.
U.S. FDA Action
In 2004, the FDA asked all manufacturers of atypical antipsychotic medication/medications to add a warning statement describing the increased risk of hyperglycemia and diabetes in patients taking these medications.
Risperdal's Possible Health Concerns
According to many reports, Risperdal may experience one of the following health issues:
- Diabetes
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas)
- Ketoacidosis
- Hyperglycemia
- Seizures
- Diabetic Coma
- Stoke
- Heart Attack
- Amputation of Limb (due to diabetes)
- Severe Weight Gain
